Park Maintenance Supervisor III – Athletic Field Maintenance
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult skilled and intermediate technical work supervising the maintenance and repair of City parks and related facilities or in the performance of a specialized activity; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over a large crew of unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled workers.
Essential Functions
- In coordination with District Supervisor or superior, schedules work projects and assigns staff and equipment; orders required parts for irrigation repairs; Inspects maintenance, repair, installation and construction sites and gives technical advice and assistance to personnel;
- Checks projects for progress and for conformance to work plans and orders;
- Receives requests for emergency and unscheduled work and coordinates completion of task;
- Coordinates the use of available equipment, materials, and personnel to obtain maximum effectiveness and economy;
- May supervise assigned areas such as landscaping or building maintenance.
- Monitor contractors performing park maintenance work or construction.
RELATED TASKS:
- Assists with athletic field maintenance, mowing, or other activity;
- Participates in employee evaluations; assist with budget preparation and monitoring;
- Clears registers and returns money for depositing;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the methods and practices of and the equipment and tools used in the repair and/or maintenance of parks and related facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work and related equipment operation.
- Skill in the use of the equipment and tools of the trade.
- Ability to prepare plans and detailed reports.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled workers.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental staff, contractors, and the general public.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
- Any associate degree from an accredited junior college or any equivalent combination of education and experience; and
- Four (4) years of experience in park or general maintenance work; and
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES:
- Ability to obtain a Florida State Pesticide Applicator License within six (6) months of employment. Position may require other special licenses or certificates.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Class “E” driver’s license with no more than six (6) points in the last three (3) years.
