Parks Equipment Operator – Sports Field Technician

About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction Parks Department is accepting applications for a full-time groundskeeper on our Sports Facilities Crew. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and growing parks maintenance team. Ownership to the entire parks system, training and expertise required will be specific in sports turf, sports field management/maintenance, and grounds. Join a team responsible for the care and maintenance of Suplizio Field, Stocker Stadium, Columbine and Kronkright softball/baseball complexes, and our largest regional sports complex, Canyon View Park. Our fields host the Junior College World Series, Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction Jackalopes (Pioneer League Baseball), 4 local high schools, and local sports clubs. These premier facilities are part of our larger parks system of 350 acres of developed parks, 111 acres of cemetery, 55 acres of school grounds, and more than 598 acres of open space.

What You’ll Do:

  • Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, forklifts, groundskeeping equipment, snow removal equipment, power and hand tools, and other specialized maintenance and construction equipment related to area of assignment.
  • Inspect the condition of assigned systems, grounds, equipment, and facilities; perform installations, repairs, and replacements as necessary.
  • Identify turf, shrub, and tree diseases, parasites, and other problems.
  • Calibrate and apply herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, and fertilizers safely and accurately; maintain records of fertilizers and chemicals used.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and the general public.

What We’re Looking For: 

  • One year (1) of general labor experience.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
