Durham Academy is seeking a Grounds Supervisor for the Upper School/Lower School/Hill Center campuses in the facilities department.
Essential Duties:
- Working supervisor who manages, trains and supervises grounds employees
- Operating turf and other heavy equipment when needed
- Maintenance of bermudagrass athletic fields with sound IPM strategies
- Maintenance of campus grounds including but not limited to mowing, blowing, seeding fertilizing, planting plants/flowers, snow removal etc.
- Upkeep and maintenance of Grounds equipment
- Preparation of athletic fields for games (painting lines/logos, baseball/softball infield prep)
- Work with Facilities staff on projects
Qualifications:
- Ability to establish and enforce proper work standards
- Proper knowledge of agronomic practices
- Ability to plan, order and coordinate pesticide and fertilizer applications in a safe manner
- Experience with the use and troubleshooting of irrigation systems
- Proficiency with Turf/Grounds equipment
- Experience with landscape design and plantings
- Computer literacy
- Valid NC driver’s license
- NC Pesticide applicators license or the ability to acquire within 6 months
- Attention to detail
- Time management skills
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma with 2-5 years of experience as a Grounds or Turf Supervisor required.
- Degree in Horticulture Science, Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or Ag Business Management preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 75 pounds
- Ability to withstand various weather conditions
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time
