Graduate Assistant Sports Turf
The Georgia State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for one Graduate Assistant (Grounds) position for the 2024-2025 school year. The position will begin in January 2024 with the option of a second year (2025). We are a fast-growing athletics department in search of co-workers that want to build a career in Athletics.
Position: Athletics Grounds GA
This position is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of all athletic buildings and stadiums.
- Performs routine maintenance on grass & synthetic athletic fields and common areas, Including:
- Providing input for the daily planning and execution of grounds crew tasks
- Clay work to include Mounds, home plate, bullpens, infield skin, and warning track.
- Helping with fertilizer and pesticide application
- Cultural practices to include mowing, verticutting, sodding, irrigation, and aerification
- Basic equipment maintenance
- Helping with tarp management and weather situations.
- Works primarily outside.
- Assists in game operations for Football, Baseball, Softball, and Soccer.
- This position also assists in the coordination of Baseball and Softball facility rentals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Sports Turf Management, Sport Management or related field
- Must be admitted or pending admission into a graduate program at Georgia State University.
- Able to lift and move objects of at least 30 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills
- Eagerness to learn
- Ability to work nights, and weekends
- Ability to work in inclement weather
- Ability to supervise student staff efficiently
- 1+ years of athletics turf management experience.
