The Georgia Tech Athletic Association is seeking a highly motivated self-starter for the position of Groundskeeper. The candidate must exhibit our core values of Character, Excellence, Innovation and Teamwork. Due to the logistical challenges, we face in Downtown Atlanta he/she must possess great organizational skills and be adaptive to a fast pace ever changing environment. This position is new and will support the Assistant Director of Athletic Grounds in the day-to-day maintenance of the football practice facility and Griffin Track. During the spring he/she will be required to work baseball and softball games.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in planning and executing the maintenance of athletic fields at a high level.
- Operates fertilizer and chemical applications and/or operates chemical application equipment.
- Field painting experience.
- Baseball/Softball specific: infield, mound and home plate maintenance
- The operation of power equipment such as: reel mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, blowers, trimmers, top dressers, aerators, verti-cutters, and Bobcats
- Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; cultural maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system.
- High level of understanding of the NCAA requirements for field layouts and markings
- Ability to work long hours (nights and weekends)
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
Experience
- 3 years of experience working on highly maintained athletic fields or golf course
- Knowledge of NCAA standards for football, baseball, softball, soccer and track
- Spraying/ Fertilizer application experience
