Salary: $60,000-65,000 OR $28.85 – $31.25

Job Summary
The Grounds Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance, care, and improvement of the baseball and softball fields, as well as the surrounding landscape at the Sandhills Global Youth Complex. This role ensures that all playing surfaces meet the highest standards for safety and playability, consistent with the overall brand and goals of the complex. The Grounds Manager will lead a team of groundskeepers and collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to ensure the facility is in peak condition for games, leagues, tournaments, and special events.

Key Responsibilities

Field Maintenance:

  • Oversee daily maintenance of artificial turf fields and natural landscaping surrounding the fields.
  • Conduct regular inspections of fields to identify and address issues such as wear, damage, or drainage problems.

Irrigation and Drainage:

  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems to ensure optimal watering of landscaped areas.
  • Monitor and manage drainage systems to prevent flooding and standing water on fields and surrounding areas.

Turf and Landscape Care:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive care plan for artificial turf, including cleaning, brushing, and infill management.
  • Oversee landscaping tasks, including mowing, planting, pruning, fertilization, and pest control.
  • Ensure that all landscaping is well-maintained and enhances the overall appearance of the complex.

Equipment Management:

  • Maintain and service groundskeeping equipment, ensuring it is in good working order.
  • Coordinate the purchase, storage, and inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Train staff on the safe and effective use of groundskeeping tools and machinery.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and schedule a team of groundskeepers, assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment.

Event Preparation and Support:

  • Coordinate field preparations for games, leagues, tournaments, and special events, ensuring fields are ready for play.
  • Work closely with Executive Director and Director of Operations to meet specific field setup and maintenance requirements.
  • Provide on-site support during events to address any immediate field maintenance needs.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the grounds maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Track expenses and adjust maintenance plans as necessary to stay within budget.

Health and Safety:

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols for groundskeeping staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to grounds maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in turf management, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in groundskeeping or turf management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of baseball and softball field maintenance practices.
  • Experience with artificial turf maintenance is required.
  • Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Availability to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the event schedule.

Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may become escalated at times.
