Assistant Turf Superintendent
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance Work:
- Assists with the regular scheduling for mowing, herbicide-pesticide application, fertilization, irrigation, and any other field care need.
- Ensure field and ground preparation – inspect mowing, painting and general maintenance of field and grounds including fences, lighting, equipment, and vehicles.
- Assists with maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies. Operates equipment required in the maintenance of stadium field care.
- Schedule maintenance coverage and clean-up for business hours and special events.
- Performs and supervises maintenance and repairs of stadium field equipment.
- Assists with the planning, coordinating, and managing of the stadium field for events, including practices, sports competition, concert, filming and/or other enterprise events.
- Respond to emergency calls regarding RBOC facilities and property.
- Routinely survey field operations to ensure safety requirements are met.
- Direct the removal of hazards and restore safety in emergency situations.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours and may include daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Supervise and Manage Maintenance Personnel:
- Supervise and manage contracted vendors and ensure contracted services are being completed.
- Oversees and evaluates the training of subordinate employees.
- Arrange for special set-ups as requested.
- Provide safety and equipment training.
- Suggest improvements in work practices.
- Routinely survey field operations to ensure safety requirements are met.
Education and experience:
- Years/Type of Experience: three to five years of experience related field
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university with a concentration in Agronomy, Turf Management, Groundskeeping, Landscaping, or related field.
- Subsequent turf management related experience may be supplemented for college degree.
- Specialized Training/Knowledge: plants and plant growth, horticulture and field preparation, administrative practices (i.e. budgeting, purchasing), stadium equipment, work safety practices, state and local laws and codes, contracting policies
Proficiency in Use/Application of the following:
- Microsoft Office 365, other stadium software programs
- Tractor, turf equipment, fertilizers, pesticides, and other applications
Licenses and Certifications:
- California Class C driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Certificates for handling fertilizers and pesticides as required
