Job Summary:
The Sacramento River Cats are seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the role of Sr. Manager, Field Operations. Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Field Operations, this position assists the daily maintenance, preparation and upkeep of the playing field, while Sutter Health Park hosts two professional teams. As one of the multiple Managers, you will lead daily field-related maintenance practices, including Infield skin work, all turf related cultural practices, pitching mounds, and home plate maintenance. You will assist in teaching game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning & budgeting.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise, mentor and train part-time game day staff for Athletic and River Cat games.
- Coordinate with the Sr. Director, Field Operations on staffing changes including interviews and hiring.
- Ensure schedules are up to date and review timesheets in preparation of payroll.
- As needed, hold the team accountable through coaching and discipline for performance, attendance, or violations of company or department policy.
Field Maintenance Duties/Responsibilities:
Lead in the daily maintenance and repair of the playing field that includes but is not limited to dirt areas (infield skin, baselines, home plate, pitcher’s mound, bullpens, warning track) management, maintenance of the natural grass playing surface.
- Assisting to help manage and maintain the irrigation system.
- Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working conditions.
- Assist in coordination and execution of infield tarp pulls.
- Track grounds department inventory (conditioners, mound clays, paint, etc.).
- Utilize the AirPat System
- Run PRM applications
- Learn new infield skin watering techniques with Hydrawick
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to quickly learn new software including timekeeping and applicant tracking software.
- Ability to multitask in a dynamic work environment while still providing effective leadership to the groundskeeping team.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques, skills, and practices.
- Pesticide training must be complete within 30 days from the date of hire.
Education and Experience:
- Two-year degree or equivalent experience preferably in Turfgrass Management.
- Multiple years of experience maintaining a professional baseball field meeting MLB standard.
- Experience managing grounds crews is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, walking, reaching, bending, grasping, lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pulling.
- Ability to lift to 75 pounds repetitively and for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate machinery and manage preventative maintenance for all equipment.
- In season ability to work all 150 games, additional events, and field preparation. Long hours each day and week should be expected.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions including direct sun exposure, hotter than average temperatures, cold, rain, and wind.
- Indoor work is occasional and is performed in artificial lighting.
Compensation:
This position is a full-time, exempt role with an expected annual salary of $75,000-$85,000. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered. Total compensation & offer package will include the following:
