Founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1877, Longwood is one of the premier tennis facilities in the world, with a long tradition of hosting national and international professional tennis events. Longwood hosts annual United States Tennis Association Grass Court Championships, professional and college athletes for training, professional exhibitions, and other various events. The historic grounds include 25 grass tennis courts, 19 clay tennis courts, and numerous gardens and landscaped areas.

Applicants are not expected to have experience in tennis court maintenance, but rather a desire to excel in any area of the turfgrass management industry. This position is an ideal opportunity to learn and obtain experience in a variety of areas of high-end turfgrass management, including the unique aspects of professional-level grass and clay tennis court maintenance.

Experience and/or Degree in turfgrass management, plant science, soil science, crop science, horticulture or related field is preferred.

Ability and desire to work independently, with the sports turf management team and supervise the diverse seasonal grounds staff comprised of all ages and abilities. This position reports to the Director and Assistant Director of Grounds and works adjacent to the current 2nd Assistant Turfgrass Manager.

The utmost attention to detail is required to provide the highest quality playing surfaces and landscaped grounds achievable.

Expect to be involved in all aspects of turfgrass management, including, but not limited to: operating specialized turf equipment, field layout and painting, chemical applications for plant health, irrigation operations, managing staff and attending crew and club committee meetings and events.

Start Date is flexible, but required by March 1st, 2026. Typical work schedule is 7am-3pm on weekdays and 7-11am on weekends. The expectation is to work, on average, one weekend day per week. The Club is closed in the Winter.

Compensation is $60,000-$75,000 and competitive with equivalent positions at professional sports teams and private golf clubs in the area and has an exceptional time off package. Compensation also includes: 401K, performance and holiday bonuses, medical/dental plan, daily lunch provided, uniforms provided, dues to turf associations and paid travel and fees for conferences, tennis and pool privileges. The position is also encouraged to volunteer for local turf related events, such as USGA, PGA, and other professional sporting events.
