
Job Summary
Loudoun County’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services is actively seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior Equipment Mechanic. The Senior Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for overseeing preventive maintenance and repairs on the equipment inventory of the assigned department. This role involves conducting advanced mechanical maintenance, inspections, and associated repairs on small to medium-sized gas or diesel engines, as well as other departmental machinery (such as gators, snow blowers, excavators, and similar devices), and/or stationary equipment within facilities (for instance, lift assemblies or large equipment that cannot be easily removed or relocated for repairs), based on departmental assignments. Moreover, the role involves reviewing intricate repair manuals and equipment documentation, diagnosing mechanical and/or associated equipment issues, identifying the suitable repair method or strategy, and coordinating vendor warranty services when necessary. In addition, the position is responsible for “locking out” equipment considered unsafe for operation, reporting any misuse or damage to the relevant supervisor/supervisors, and aiding in the enforcement of workplace safety standards and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with specialized training in equipment repair, diagnostics, or in a similar trade (through either a vocational school and/or apprenticeship) and three (3) years of related experience in equipment maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Must undergo pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. Annual reviews of driving records may be conducted to ensure ongoing qualification. First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire; OSHA, forklift, bucket truck, and other lift truck training as required within department timeframes.
This job requires a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire. Successful candidate holding a CDL must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.
