Position: The Somerset Patriots, the AA affiliate of the NY Yankees, are hiring summer interns to assist with maintaining the baseball field and grounds at TD Bank Ballpark for the 2025 season. The ballpark features a newly renovated playing surface completed this fall and the organization was recently named “2024 Double-A Organization of the Year” by Baseball America. The internship runs May-August with a flexible start / end date for students. Candidates should have an interest in turf management or horticulture, be reliable, and enjoy baseball. No experience is necessary provided you are willing to learn and work hard.
Job Description: Assist with all aspects of grounds maintenance including infield dirt and clay work, field painting, mowing, landscaping, weeding, aeration, seeding, set up for batting practice / games, post-game field repair, bullpen / dugout cleanup and other duties as assigned. Training is provided on various grounds equipment including mowers, infield pro, edgers, trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles. Interns must be able to work in any weather condition and will assist with tarping the field during inclement weather.
Schedule: Interns will gain experience working both game and non-game days including nights, weekends, and some holidays depending on the game schedule. Students will work an average of 40 hrs. per week and days off are scheduled when the team is away. Vacations are permitted and encouraged. Non-game day hours are typically 8:30am-4:30pm and rotating shifts are used on game days to minimize excessive hours. Shift #1 is 8:30am-3:45pm and shift #2 is 3:15pm-10:30pm. Hours subject to change based on game times and weather.
Compensation: $15.49 / hr. plus college credit where applicable
