Athletic Field Supervisor

Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Grounds Manager, ensure that campus athletic fields are safe and aesthetically appealing to students, faculty, staff, and visitors by assisting in developing, organizing, scheduling, and administering the maintenance for all athletic fields.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

1. Actively lead, enforce, and participate in workplace safety, including but not limited to; safe working conditions and the use of proper protective equipment (PPE). Follow and support all regulatory, school, and departmental safety guidelines.

2. Plan, assign, direct, and evaluate all athletic field and playground maintenance on campus.

3. Coordinate and assist in all aspects of maintenance on all natural and artificial athletic fields, including turf, infield, home plate, pitcher’s mound, bullpens, baselines and warning track, GHSA expectations to be maintained and exceeded.

4. Responsible for oversight for maintaining safe conditions of the Lower and Middle School playgrounds.

5. Inspect, repair, and schedule athletic field irrigation based on turf needs.

6. Disease observation and identification for athletic field turf.

7. Ability to operate all necessary equipment pertaining to landscape and athletic field maintenance.

8. Apply fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides with spreaders, backpack, and boom sprayers.

9. Work closely with athletic staff and coaches, maintenance, and custodial to ensure the proper maintenance of outdoor athletic facilities and fields

10. Monitor athletic fields during adverse weather conditions and communicate with campus users on any closures.

11. Request proposals from contractors and vendors providing goods and services to the school; administer contracts, and schedule work

12. Attend event meetings involving activities on athletic fields.

13. Lead a team of staff to include: recruiting, training, motivating, evaluating performance, and guiding team members.

14. Maintain adequate PPE, material supplies, and equipment within approved budgetary guidelines.

15. Ability to operate and train staff on all necessary equipment pertaining to turf maintenance.

16. Complete all required recording and reporting of campus pesticide applications

17. Must be able to work evenings and weekends when required

18. Represent The Lovett School within the community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.

19. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a Two or Four Year Degree in Turf-grass Science or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • Minimum 5 years of athletic field and turf-grass experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of:  Athletic field Maintenance, including turf, skinned area, pitcher’s mound, and home plate.
  • Current Georgia Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate (24 Ornamental and Turf Pest Control).
