HEAD GROUNDSPERSON

Position Overview
The Weston Public Schools is seeking to hire a Head Groundsperson. This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break, reporting to the Director of Facilities. About the Weston Public Schools
The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 1,960 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) – a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 167 students (K-12).

Key Responsibilities

  • Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion
  • Maintain athletic fields, roadways, plowing, caring for turf, trees, and shrubs
  • Repair and perform preventative maintenance of equipment
  • Establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships with students, teachers, administrators, other school employees, the public, and other town departments using the grounds and fields
  • Setup specifications for grounds maintenance program
  • Train new personnel
  • Prepare daily reports and other logs; overseeing weekly distribution of overtime
  • Submit inspection reports as necessary
  • Inspect the grounds for maintenance and security
  • Deal with emergency situations
  • Properly use a variety of grounds equipment and supplies; maintain inventory and prepare requisitions
  • Participate in implementation of appropriate tasks and schedules for both long and short term plan
  • Proficiently use computerized maintenance systems including daily updating of work orders to keep records accurate
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  • Maturity, flexibility, and comfort working as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic, with a track record of meeting deadlines
  • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Two years experience as a supervisory head groundsperson preferred
  • Knowledge of landscape and athletic field maintenance
  • Understanding of the basic concepts of landscape design and irrigation systems
  • Knowledge and experience with water conservation practices

Compensation
The compensation for the Elementary Head Groundsperson will be $26.57 per hour (Category E, Step 1). Additionally, the Weston Public Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package, including employer sponsored health insurance, paid time off, and participation in the Middlesex County Retirement System.
