The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a University Arborist for Facilities Management-Grounds. This is a full-time, permanent staff position.
Purpose of the Position: This position serves as the University Arborist with responsibility for all arboricultural project work associated with the tree canopy including: planting; pruning; maintenance; and removal; as well as, oversight of external contractors and/or vendors. There has been a significant tree cover for the University over its history. With the tremendous amount of past and future growth on Campus, there are initiatives for replacing and upkeep of this vital asset of the University. In this urban setting, the Urban Forest must be maintained at a high level with professionalism and expertise. The Urban Forest is an asset to the University totaling approximately 3 million dollars; therefore, there is a high demand for continued specialized upkeep resulting in the need for this new position. The result of this position will provide a healthy and safe environment as well as insure it continues to remain an aesthetically pleasing Campus.
Salary: $47,930 – $54,000
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, and one year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver’s license required. The Arborist operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
Essential Job Duties: Performance of and oversight of Arboricultural work for the Campus Tree Canopy.
Perform tree removals as needed. Perform tree care as needed. Oversee vendors and contractors on Campus who will perform work on the Campus Tree Canopy. Coordinate projects related to work on the Campus Tree Canopy.
Perform and/or coordinate other projects related to tree work on Campus. Assist with the oversight of the Campus Tree Inventory. Provide data entry and updates to Campus Tree Inventory in ArborPro.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from high school and five years’ experience in the area of work assigned, three of which were in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
