The Foundation for Safer Athletic Fields for Everyone (SAFE) is seeking research projects to fund. Its Board of Trustees finalized its research program earlier this spring.
To be considered, the proposal must benefit the sports field management industry
in the following area: Field maintenance or performance as it relates to the
safety of the playing surface for athletes (study may be directed towards but
is not limited to turfgrass health, uniformity, wear tolerance, hardness,
athlete injuries, field temperatures, etc.)
SAFE is the charitable arm of SFMA. It raises funds from general donations from
members, corporate donations, activities at the SFMA conference including the
silent and live auctions, raffle, golf tournament and bowling event. In 2019,
all funds raised from the silent auction were designated for research.
SAFE’s longer-term goal is to create an endowment for its research program. However,
it plans to award funds annually to advance its mission of enriching
communities through championing safe, sustainable sports and recreation fields
for all athletes.
