SUMMARY
The Supervisor II is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of other employees in the Recreation Department to ensure timely and quality completion of various assignments. The Supervisor II may also be responsible for performing manual and agronomic skilled work for maintenance of parish parks, sports fields, grounds, playgrounds, and special projects including, but not limited to sports fields projects, grounds maintenance projects, recreation projects, and public works projects. The work may be physically demanding in nature and sometimes involves the use of light mechanical equipment to include, but not limited to grounds maintenance equipment, tractors, implements, trucks, trailers, line painters, ballfield rakes, and specialized turf related equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Responsible for performing tasks related to employee supervision including reviewing assigned tasks to determine labor, materials, and equipment needs; assigning and acquiring equipment and materials; establishing department timeline for task completion; supervising and directing activities of employees within the Recreation Department by assigning daily projects and duties; and ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Inspects, submits, and approves work orders for equipment and coordinate maintenance repairs
  • Documentation of daily work, tasks, assignments, and projects
  • Responsible for inspecting and ensuring the completion and quality of work performance by employees, vendors, and contractors alike
  • Responsible for ensuring subordinates understand and are properly trained to perform assigned tasks and safely operate trucks, trailers, tractors, ballfield rakes, and other equipment
  • May assist employees in completion of tasks or fill in for absent employees
  • Responsible for advising direct Supervisor and/or Manager of employee work performance and any potential issues
  • Responsible for providing timely and accurate feedback to supervised employees regarding performance and potential issues
  • In emergency situations, may be required to work at various locations, including, but not limited to, parish run shelters, sand bagging locations, parish roads and other locations as assigned
  • Communicates with other departments to ensure that efforts are not duplicated and ensures availability of needed equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Completes all necessary paperwork and documentation associated with responsibilities including time sheets, disciplinary actions, performance appraisals, etc.
  • Any other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent and (3) years of related experience is required

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, or REGISTRATIONS

  • The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, Louisiana state driver’s license.
  • The incumbent is subject to a pre-employment physical and drug test with random drug testing thereafter.
  • A current Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry Pesticide Applicator License (Category 3) or the ability to obtain one is preferred.
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification or the ability to obtain is preferred.
  • The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier II position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to the traditional or emergency worksite. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include termination of employment.

Prior experience of maintenance and management of natural and synthetic ballfields is a plus.
