Assistant Groundskeeper

SUMMARY
The El Paso Chihuahuas are a Minor League Baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. They are located in El Paso, Texas, and play their home games at Southwest University Park, which opened in 2014. The El Paso Chihuahuas are seeking a well-qualified individual for the role of Assistant Groundskeeper.

JOB DUTIES

  • Engage in the management of all turf operations on a daily basis, including maintaining and handling field related physical duties to protect and manage turf and dirt surfaces.
  • Run the effective, detailed and proactive maintenance of the playing surfaces, surrounding turf areas, and the common grounds, including but not limited to, litter control, mowing and trimming, seeding, painting/striping field, fertilization and weed management, infield tarp placement and removal, skinned-area preparation, including pitchers mounds, bullpens, home plates and infield areas, edging foul lines, base lines and other transition points, pre-game setup and post-game closure of field for home games and other events, and set up and take down of baseball equipment for team practice and drills.
  • Engage in the management of field transition for soccer games and work closely with soccer operations to ensure turf is properly prepared and ready for all games.
  • Work closely with grounds staff to manage and maintain soccer training complex turf and surfaces for practice.
  • Assists Head Groundskeeper to hire and train all seasonal staff for the stadium.
  • Works closely with stadium operations staff and front office to help manage non sport related events and off-season facility projects.
  • Manage inventory of grounds materials including ordering and tracking material and usage.
  • Work with Head Groundskeeper to prepare budgets and operate under budgetary guidelines.
  • Create and provide training and train all game-day employees and seasonal hires in grounds duties.
  • Make regular field inspections to ensure the quality and safety of the playing field and surrounding turf.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with managers, coaches, umpires, etc.
  • Lead the administrative for seasonal staff scheduling and new hire onboarding.
  • Ensure the safe and proper operation of all equipment utilized, maintaining that equipment in safe, clean, operable condition.
  • Manage the set-up, maintenance, and close down of field, including tarp pull.
  • Willingly engage in proactive outside landscape maintenance of turf, shrubs, gravel, and irrigation.
  • Manage and renew existing partner relationships

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Required to work long hours standing and walking around during season and events.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or crouching are all part of this position.
  • Must be able to handle weather related elements such as rain and heat.
