Little League Baseball World Series

Each year, volunteer field crews maintain two stadiums for games plus five practice fields for the two-week long Little League Baseball World Series. Many of these volunteers are members of the SFMA and this is the 26th year that the Keystone Athletic Field Managers Organization (KAFMO) has assisted with the field care for the series.

In 2023, the tournament took place August 16-27, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. There were 26 volunteers from eight states on the field management crew. A typical day was prepping practice fields and mounds before practices began at 9 am. They also maintained a four-station practice bullpen for pitchers. Then they focused on the safety, playability, and aesthetics of the stadiums. Each year, this volunteer crew strives to provide the safest playing surface for all teams that reach this level of little league tournament.

SFMA volunteer members include:

  • Jeff Fowler (Pennsylvania State University)
  • Matt Duncan, CSFM (DLF Pickseed)
  • Josh DeJong, CSFM (Target Specialty Products)
  • John Fowler (Anuvia Plant Nutrients)
  • Alan Wilson, CSFM (Wilson & Associates Sports Turf)
  • Dan Miller (North Huntington Township)
  • Chris Lessig (Volusia County Parks and Recreation)
  • Stephen Watson (Down East Wood Ducks)
